What a weekend!!! Last year had given the sequel high standards to live up to but Duchy Capri Club did not disappoint.
Jaffa & I had an relatively uneventful trip down to Newquay, until the heavens had well and truly opened and the XR4x4's drivers wiper decided to disappear off the edge of the windscreen and flap around on the door mirror. After a few choice words it was discovered that somehow a nut had become loose so with spanner in hand the problem was fixed although we did get a little soggy in the process.
Arriving at the campsite did not see the weather improve so we were resigned to sleeping in the car. An hour later and we were blessed with a break so we went for the world record with the fastest tent erection ever. We were finished & off to the clubhouse to get hot food when Elvin & Corina and Steve & Jen arrived. They were happy to get themselves sorted while we treated ourselves to some hard earned munchies. Unfortunately we did not realise the wind was getting up and only heard later how much they had struggled to get the tents up.
Saturday saw better weather although it was nowhere near as glorious as the year before, the XROC bunch don't let something like that get in our way though. The morning was spent chilling and cleaning the cars. We had a good bit of banter with some Dutch Capri owners who had come over, they were great chaps and so easy to get on with.
Brian, Martin & Shelbie joined us too; pitching their tents in far better weather then the rest of us endured.
Dinner was by our own hands, cooked at the tents. Jaffa & I had an uneventful chow down session but Jen's sausage related antics did get attention of the wrong kind from the native seagulls. This did lead to a rather unfortunate clean car vs seagull pooh incident for Steve, the rest of us found it utterly hilarious though.
Later in the day we headed to the clubhouse to sit down together and have a damn good meal and a few drinks. Shelbie & I treated ourselves to a really huge and scrummy ice cream each... mmmmm.
We then headed over to the arcades and the bowling, spending a good few hours there. Elvin & Corina are absolute geniuses when it comes to a few of the arcade machines and they came away with quite a few prizes.
Jaffa was grievously injured by a low flying air hockey puck launched by yours truly, never have I seen so many people spontaneously explode in fits of laughter, I am still apologising though... even now.
We retired to the tents quite a bit later and sat round with a few drinkies, sharing stories and having a good laugh.
Sunday came and was a complete turn around in weather, there wasn't a single cloud in the sky and the temperature was climbing quite fast. After a quick breakfast and tidy up we headed down to the showground with Marc & Abi who arrived as we were all getting ready.
The show was a little down on number but didn't suffer for it at all and the variety was excellent. The interest in the stand was great, Jaffa & Elvin were interviewed in the morning by a man brandishing a microphone much to our delight. Unfortunately Karma came back in the afternoon & bit me on the behind for poking fun when all our lovely members pointed the BBC Cornwall radio crew in my direction, next thing I know I am live on air promoting the club and the cars!! Ah well, if I have to get a little bit embarrassed for the benefit of the club then it's a price I am happy to pay.
The show was as laid back as ever & we all relaxed in the sun, a few of us getting quite burnt in the process... whoops!
As far is the rest is concerned... as always, I think it's best to let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy.
