We had an all day session getting the cars ready to go on Saturday before retiring to bed for a good nights sleep (Yes Ok... I might be persuaded to give up my bed for a tent one year).
An early wake up call at some ungodly hour of the morning Sunday saw Loz & I leaving the house for our little journey down to Silverstone to join the main club stand.
The weather was gorgeous until the half way point when the black cloud loomed and the heavens opened, we couldn't believe it!!! But we always really enjoy this show and wasn't about to let some of the wet stuff spoil our day.
We joined the queue entering the grounds and took our time as the photographer snapped us on the way in (Loz decided this year was as good as any to start cracking a cheesy grin with her thumb up). We made our way to the infield area through the tunnel at Copse where it is a done thing to floor it as you go through (it would be rude not to).
After finding the stand we met up with the rest of the early risers and got ourselves parked up... calling shotgun on the front row positions. The club stand was in an amazing position, right next to the autojumble & trade stands and also (on the other side of us) the grandstand for watching track action.
We said our hellos and got on with cleaning off the cars as Tom (my nephew) went on a mission for cups of tea). Loz got on with bringing my wheels back to white as I quick detailed both cars.
After a little bit of effort the girls were up to scratch so we decided to make the most of our early start and trawl the jumble & trade stands for some early bargains.
I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms as I hadn't bought any bling in a while and also Loz kept coming back with bags of goodies for her 2i. I soon decided to console myself with breakfast & wander round the concourse area to drool over the cars on show there. Steve had also entered his "asbo orange" Escort Turbo having chosen to leave his 3i Cabbie at home. Must admit every time we walked passed him he was always chatting to someone different so it must have been popular.
After a bit of time we returned to the stand and as the sun had come out we both put our bonnets up to let our engine bays do the talking. This was our time to catch up with friends from all over the country & have a bit of a laugh. Its amazing how many people we ended up speaking to in the day... and I'm sure there were more we didn't get to!!
In between chats we popped over to the grandstand to watch the Escort anniversary parade and a bit of the track action too). This was the ideal time to get the camera & camcorder out, we both managed to get some good shots of the antics.
We climbed up to the back of the seating which overlooked the club stand and we stood there very impressed by the stand. The branch flags were lined up flapping in the breeze as loads of visitors milled around chatting to different members of the club. We could also see that Top Cat (Tom from HQ & Southern Branch) was busy dealing with enquiries & new sign-ups. I hope all the new members who joined us at this show have a great time with the club and enjoy it as much as we do.
At 2.30PM all the members gathered together at the club gazebo for a photo-rolecall. Its a great coming together of likeminded people. It was a good giggle and we wait with anticipation to see how it has come out. For me personally it was my first (although Loz is old hat now).
The day seemed to be over all too soon, we had to start packing up but we hadn't even made it to the other club stands to look around!!
A few end of show bargains were emerging so Loz went out on one last hunt through the jumble and came back with a brand new center console for a stupidly cheap price (all so the trader didn't have to take it back home again)... I've never seen her grin so much!!
So... once again Ford Fair was a fantastic show which seemed to give everyone much enjoyment. So, I don't know about you but we're already planning for next years!! See you there!!!
