Ilminster Classic & Vintage Car Show 2009
A new show for the branch and a fairly last minute choice to attend too. It has proved to be a good decision as it was a cracking day out in the sun.
We met at Ilminster services before heading into town and the recreation ground, for most of us getting into the ground was ok, but not for yours truly. Unfortunately the entrance had a curb to drive up over and my car is a bit low for that so while everyone else got parked up I ended up removing the front valance from the car... I don't think I've seen Brian laugh so hard! (The organisers were pretty amused by my antics too)

It wasn't long before I was joining the others and putting my car back together.
After a bit of polishing all the cars were looking great so we were free to have a wander.
The town centre was hosting a local fair with stalls selling local produce and goods. Some of us sorted our breakfast hunger with free food samples (although the fudge was too tempting to just sample)
Best of all on offer was fresh strawberries and cream, perfect to munch on a hot day.

Back at the cars the conversation soon turned to engine bays and cleaning them up. Soon Robert & Laura were both getting stuck into the cleaning of the engine bay on their XR3i. Its amazing the number of people who came over to see what we were up to and ended up staying to chat, one chap even went away with a shopping list of cleaning products he wanted to get to use on his own cars!

The rest of the afternoon was spent chatting, eating strawberries and walking round the cars on show. For a show that is only in its first year the turn out was really impressive and everyone attended was really friendly.
Soon the day was over and after stripping the front end of my car again we were ready to leave. The organisers have noted the entrance problems and are already on the case for next year. Out of the grounds the car is quickly reassembled with thanks to Robert and we are on the way home again. Tired, slightly pink and happy.
