What a gorgeous sunny day…. Steve & I met up and drove up (two-car convoy style) to castle combe. We were supposed to be higher in numbers but circumstances meant all the other booked members couldn’t make it. Following on from this journey I have decided that it may be worth getting a few radios for such situations as Steve tried to get my attention for miles before he decided to cane it past me only to cut me up & dive into the services kamakazi style….Sorry mate, next time I’ll check my messages.
Steve and I took no time at all to get in position on the stand (not hard to arrange two cars) which left plenty of time for cleaning…. Only problem was our standards are starting to get higher…. Time for a quick visit to the trade stands to get supplies.
We had a great spot and as we polished we got to see a lot of the track cars after they had been on the track… or in one MG’s case after it had been off the track, it went past with a vast amount of vegetation hanging from behind the rear bumper. Truth be told it looked like fun.
I have found to my expense that Steve is a bad influence… he fails to discourage the art of spending money on shiny bits which led to me coming home with several new bits which ae waiting to be fitted… along with new show plates so no one can miss me.
Steve walked away with some pretty nifty plates too, showing off his sense of humour & love for the cabriolet.
I decided to take part in the parade lap celebrating the Fiesta and didn’t I have fun. The one sedate lap I expected it to be turned into an 8-9 lap blat around the track with me playing with a load of RS Turbos!!! I did discover that my baby pops just as good as our turbo’ed friends… Happy days.
After that Steve & I made a point of catching up with the other XROC branches attending so we made our way down to say hi to the South Wales & the South West branches who are always a good laugh. Some of their members (and secretaries) are becoming firm friends and we always look forward to seeing them. Thanks to Anne Marie & Kev for filming my parade lap/track session although I haven’t seen it yet (it’ driving me mad with anticipation!!)
Now the day was pressing on so we wandered in & out the club stands and the trade ones again finally ending up at the café/bar where photos of the track sessions were up for sale… I walked away with four photos of my baby.
Last of all awards were given out for the best cars on each stand… Ok Steve you beat me this time, but next year I’ll be walking away with the trophy… I’m telling you its my damn tailgate!!!! Next year that problem will be solved.
