South West Motor Show 2009
This show was gearing up to be a big one for the branch and it didnt disappoint. As well as Devon & Cornwall branch members we had a lot of other club members joining us from other branches accross the UK.
The day came and went so quickly it really did feel like a whirlwind. We had quite a large stand which took quite some setting up, but once in place everyone got their clothes out and started cleaning. All the cars looked sparkling and with good reason, all the trophies were ready and waiting.
Thank you again to George and his team for carrying out the judging on all the cars on our stand, without them I would have had a hard job deciding who to give an award to.
Although the sky did become very cloudy the sun stayed out and was very hot, a lot of us have ended up with rather red faces, there was enough of a breeze to keep all our flags flying which looked excellent.
Wandering around the show there seemed to be less garish, over the top modified cars of previous years. In fact there were quite a few classic cars on display and all of them were stunning.
Much to everyones delight the same food stalls were there this year including the now famous cake stand, it only took one of us munching on a piece of cheesegate to open the flood gates, it wasnt long before we were all sat munching on our cake-of-choice... mmmmmmmmm.
After our cake eating session the raffle was held which took a little longer than planned (I hadn't realised how many prizes I had to give away).
Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets, we raised a total of just over £85.00 to go towards the purchase of a new gazebo.
Thank you to certain members who seemed to have an impressive stash of raffle tickets, providing much comedy to the drawing process when their winning tickets came up time & time again (I think it had started to get embarrassing) hee hee.
After the raffle the trophies were awarded and the winners were as follows:
- Best Sierra - Brian Jarvis
- Best Escort - Marc Bidiss
- Best Fiesta - Laura Summerwill
- Best Visiting Car - Marcus Collins
The afternoon was fast drawing to a close, leaving enough time for a final wander around before packing up. Then we decided to have a unplanned, quick photoshoot before heading for home.
